Lux Lyall - 'Draw Blood'

Hauntingly beautiful and full of pain and frustration, Lux Lyall’s ‘Draw Blood’ captures the universal experiences of wanting to leave behind your current life and any undesirable scenarios taking place in it, while maintaining the idea that you will always be stronger than you know.

Ahead of the release of her second album ‘Runaway Bride’ next year, Lux Lyall has released her latest track ‘Draw Blood’. ‘Runaway Bride’ follows in the wake of Lux Lyall’s 2020 debut album ‘VAMP,’ an album which earned Lux strong critical support from the likes of The Independent, Clash Magazine, Wonderland and many more.

‘Draw Blood’ captures the complex thoughts and feelings women have while finding themselves in abusive relationships. Regarding the latest single, Lux explained that “‘Draw Blood’ is actually about multiple things. A few years ago, I was finally open with my therapist about an assault that happened while I was dating someone when I was younger; I was pretty closed about after it happened because I actually felt guilty for staying in the relationship afterwards. Now I know I basically shut the whole thing out because I didn’t want to face it, it’s still hard to talk about.”

The track’s lyrics feature themes of frustration throughout the sing, along with the sense of a desire to just leave and never look back, Lux explained that “the verses are more about how trapped I felt at the time.” ‘Draw Blood’ is an anthem for wanting to leave an undesirable aspect of your life behind but finding yourself often physically unable to do so at that moment in time and ultimately channelling your strength to free yourself.

Reflecting on the past, Lux added “I kept thinking about the concept of “being with the band” and how I’d been that way when I was young and all it did was give me trauma! I’m trying to say I don’t want to be with the band anymore I want to BE the band.” Lyall’s strength and determination to overcome the challenges she has faced in her life are inspiring and lend themselves to creating a truly beautiful song that could potentially be empowering to so many people who have found themselves in situations like this in the past (and for those who are currently facing these kind of ordeals).

Lux Lyall’s hauntingly beautiful lyrics blend effortlessly with the subtle nods to the 90s through the use of guitars throughout the song, in order to create a soulful song that’s rich with pain and frustration that ultimately embodies the strength we find in ourselves when we least expect it.
