Pixies - 'Vault of Heaven'
Legends to the ‘alt rock’ genre, Pixies make a triumphant return with their newest single ‘Vault of Heaven’.
From their new album Doggerel due to be released on September 30th, Pixies stomp back on the music scene with confidence and conviction. With their most recent releases being an eclectic compilation of live performances, Pixies unleash their newest material since 2016, with a bold and ballsy new track ‘Vault of Heaven’.
The song oozes confidence and fun, with a melodic, desert-noir feel to it - which matches perfectly with the absurd music video to go along with it.
Although the video holds a certain level of farcical comedy, the track itself carries a dark and mysterious vibe which almost makes it feel like it could be the theme song to a sadistic, but loveable anti-hero in a western movie.
The lyrics encapsulate a sci-fi, yet self aware undertone with Black Francis’ words creating a full storyline and imagery for the listener to explore. The dark and grungy baseline, courtesy of Paz Lenchantin, guides us slowly into the song until the bombshell of electric guitar and drums fill the song with psychedelic, yet folk arrangements.
Although Pixies got their start in the late ‘80s with their unique, punk sound; ‘Vault of Heaven’ shows the band emerging with a more modern and fresh take on their notorious sound - which still manages to feel true to the band’s vision.
Pixies new album ‘Doggerel’ is available September 30th, followed by a glorious world tour around North America, South America, Australia and Europe throughout the rest of the summer; as well as several festival appearances throughout the rest of the year.
