Sophie May - 'Doppleganger'

Sophie May encapsulates those late-night overthinking moments in her brilliant new track “Doppelganger”.
Sophie May is a 24-year-old up-and coming-artist with a dedicated online following with 260k monthly listeners on Spotify and over 200k followers on TikTok.
In Doppelgänger her whispering hypnotic vocals tell the story of how she recognises herself in pictures of her love’s ex-girlfriend.
“We look so alike // Sisters in another life // We look so related //You’re just too ashamed to say it.”
This brilliant and achingly beautiful concept for a song encapsulates those anxious disturbed feelings of realising you look so similar to an ex-girlfriend. Produced by Josh Scarbrow (Arlo Parks, Matt Maltese), the calming guitar and main melody carry the song through and stick to its light but sorrowful theme. The second half of the track brings in passion with the introduction of more powerful bass and drums and high backing vocals, bringing in texture and keeping us drawn in. But the overall feeling is still there, the sadness, the yearning, the aching, the upset.
In her own words, Sophie talks about the situation showcased in the track “Doppelgänger’ is a melodramatic take on feeling like all your partner's exes look like you. Diving deep into the universal emotions of jealousy and blowing all rational judgement out the window. The single encapsulates that moment of indulgence when scrolling way too far back on a partner’s ex's Facebook page (and paying for it later).”
Sophie May is continuing her impressive introduction to the music scene with her biggest headline show to date at London’s Omeara on 23 May.
If you loved Sophie’s “Doppelgänger” then you are in luck, as a new body of work is due to be released this summer.
