Krooked Tongue - 'Backseat Therapy'

Bristol rock trio Krooked Tongue release epic, Scorsese-inspired music video to accompany the heavy hitting track ‘Backseat Therapy’.

The group’s recent EP ‘Deathproof’ has proved to be hugely successful, with the band catching the eyes and ears of some admirable outlets who have offered nothing but praise regarding the material. Krooked Tongue really seem to be building some momentum.

‘Backseat Therapy’ becomes one of the stand out tracks on the EP, with its thudding basslines, fuzzy guitar riffs and drums which really drive things to new heights, really encompassing the heaviness of the number.

The title of this one is no random selection. Lead vocalist and lyricist Oli Rainsford has stated how he “wrote ‘Backseat Therapy’ after jumping in a cab one day and the driver started venting to me about the shitty day he was having. […] I ended up kind of being a life coach for the journey and reassured him that he was a nice bloke and he was doing a good job.” The message that Rainsford has aimed to put forward is plain for all to see, it’s brilliant. During the track we hear these references to the ‘Backseat Therapy’ that the track’s named after. This is most evident at the track’s climax, where the vocalist repeats the words: “Keep your eyes on the road”.

This innovative imagery of ‘Backseat Therapy’ meets classic cinema in the accompanying music video. An imitation of Scorsese’s ‘Goodfellas’ opener kicks things off in what is an uber cool video, depicting the group wearing slick suits, seemingly performing the track beside a parked car that is used to recreate the legendary opening scene from the mob movie.

The track is the perfect example of how a music video can match a track perfectly. It’s clever, it’s dark, it’s exactly what the track is. Rainsford’s words and the group’s music make for a huge track that has a strong message behind it – a cab ride can be more of a ‘journey’ than we often realise.

Krooked Tongue have gone from strength to strength with this one. ‘Backseat Therapy’ joins some incredible singles to make up what is a fiercely strong EP in the form of ‘Deathproof’.
