The Slow Readers Club - 'Technofear'
‘Technofear’ is indie noir outfit The Slow Readers Club’s urgent and honest new single release and gets shared ahead of a series of sold out tour dates across the country, and the release of a new album.
Eight UK and Ireland dates celebrate the band’s seventh studio album, ‘Out Of A Dream’, which is due out in March next year. Their new single, ‘Technofear’, is a lyrical masterpiece that highlights the band’s musical experience over the years and how they’ve developed themselves musically and poetically. The single sets the bar high for ‘Out Of A Dream’ and the energy the band will be bringing to their upcoming live shows. This dark and thumping guitar-driven piece of reflective alternative indie shows how sharp and relevant The Slow Readers Club still are.
‘Technofear’ is one of the first to come from the band’s brand new musical chapter highlighting the modern ills within society and human nature. This new project pulsates, drives, races and embraces a sound that I’ve always enjoyed and still enjoy; coming from Manchester the four-piece combine hints of indie pop with alternative rock, a dash of shoegaze and a noir rock vibe that makes for an addictive listen. ‘Technofear’ comes with a visualiser pulling its listeners even further into the Slow Readers Club-universe.
The single arrives as a bold statement of intent and remains true to the band’s knack of producing incredible earworms. Frontman Aaron Starkie elaborates on the inspiration behind the single: “Social media is a bewildering landscape where truths, half-truths, and outright falsehoods mingle in a dizzying swirl of information. The lines between fact and fiction become blurred as echo chambers reinforce people's beliefs, whether grounded in reality or not. Algorithms, designed to maximize engagement, often prioritize sensationalism over accuracy, making it difficult to distinguish between credible sources and deceptive narratives. In this chaotic environment, the quest for truth becomes more elusive, as certainty gives way to doubt and confusion, leaving us questioning what’s real.”
The band consisting of Aaron, Kurtis, James, and David formed in 2009 and have been building their live reputation and an eager fan base over the years. They built their reputation in grassroots music venues around Manchester and throughout the UK, and shared stages with Morrissey, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Pixies, Shed Seven, and The Charlatans to name a few. Together with their audience they’ve been building valuable memories and they continue to do so, hopefully for years to come. Now that the band are out of the studio they are gearing up for their return to the stage, with sold out shows in Nottingham, Bristol, London, Manchester, and Glasgow among others!
