Warmduscher - 'Cleopatra'
Six-piece punk connoisseurs in Warmduscher return with a dazzling collaboration with Coucou.
Chloe Since their formation in 2014, Warmduscher has been an incessant force in the world of modern punk music, having released four full-length studio albums which include collaborations with greats such as Iggy Pop and Kool Keith.
Recently announcing their fifth record Too Cold To Hold, the London-based group has a flurry of guest appearances on this upcoming project, which will include the likes of Lianne La Havas, Irvine Welsh, Jeshi and Confidence Man’s Janet Planet. This time they team up with Coucou Chloe, the French producer and singer who is a pioneer in experimental electronic music, creating a multi-layered and continually groovy sound in “Cleopatras”. The lyrics refer to creative process and attempting to create something real and original in a world that is constantly draining you, a theme reflected in the incredible animated music video which was released with the track, where energy vampires feed off people’s energy.
Speaking on the story depicted in the animation, director Penelope Whitehouse said: “In our story energy vampires are real creatures that feed on starlight in space, but having drained every star they fall to earth and feed off people’s energy instead - namely the people who visit a local dive bar, Cleopatra’s, at night in the middle of the woods. When a struggling musician arrives at the bar, the vampires are determined to drain him completely”. Accompanied by an untiring drum section which follows the listener from start to finish, the added rhythmical frisk of cowbells is joined with a heavy-driven bass sound and distorted, spirited vocals in classic Warmduscher fashion.
Speaking about this single and music video, frontman Clams Baker Jr. says: “Beneath the surface of Willesden Junction, energy-siphoning aliens convene at Cleopatra’s. Here, they conduct social experiments on the heart of the city, manipulating its inhabitants and feeding off their vitality, all in pursuit of stardom”. On the identity of the group amidst their fifth studio album, he adds: “My interpretation of who we are is pretty simple. A group of talented musicians and entertainers that have dedicated our lives to music and making a living doing what we love. We can’t do anything else really so here we are. What other people think of us is up to them”.
‘Too Cold To Hold’ will be out on November 15th through Strap Originals as the group go on tour later this month throughout the U.K and Europe with support from KEG, Hot Wax, Wu- Lu, Jeannie & the Whiteboys, Sworn Virgins and Friends in what is one of the most stacked support line-ups this year.
