Self Help - 'Engage Enrage'
Oxford’s Self Help release their breathless post-punk single, ‘Enrage Engage!’
Following the release of single, ‘Spaceman’, Oxford’s alternative Self Help have released their new single, ‘Enrage Engage!’ for their forthcoming debut album. This amazing new single perfectly encapsulates Self Help’s sound in just over four breathless minutes. ‘Enrage Engage!’ is a heady mix of sardonic lyricism, dissonant melodies, crunchy synths and explosive sonics, as this alternative rock five-piece share their world view with the listener.
Self Help first formed in 2018 sharing a love for a diverse and experimental approach to making music. The band creates art strictly on their own terms and challenges the listener throughout and with their unforgettable performances leaving a lasting effect on music lovers far and wide. After following a short and self-imposed break from playing music, Self Help returned to the scene in 2022 with their uncompromising sound enveloping their peers into a sonic-euphoric, semi-doomscape or as Self Help as coined ‘Vroomscape’. This has led to several festival appearances and airplay on BBC 6 Music as well as Self Help supporting the likes of Squid, Goat Girl, The Murder Capital and Animal House.
‘Enrage Engage!’ is packed full of post-punk energy and is a result of Self Help’s ironic displeasure at seeing the modern world in the state that it’s currently in. The forthcoming debut consists of songs that discuss broken dreams, feelings of dread and the ongoing machine that is social interaction over the internet. The innovating Self Help illustrates their quirky approach to music by using everything from hoovers and saltshakers to brushing their teeth, as the record sonically refuses to stand still.
This earworm single ‘Enrage Engage!’ will be followed by the single ‘I Want You All to Myself’, which will then be followed by the highly anticipated album in June. With a plethora of live dates booked this year, with even more to be announced and after supporting Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard this march, 2024 is gearing up to be an important year for Self Help.
