Jordana - 'We get By'
A sunshiny track about falling in love, Jordana’s new release ‘We Get By’ provides the warmth and joy we have all been craving.
Bright, comforting and wonderfully sweet, Jordana is back with the gorgeous track ‘We Get By’. The first hint at new writing, the release comes between tours with Local Natives, Remi Wolf, TV Girl & Wallows. Jordana has expressed that she has been working on things for nearly a year now and is moving into a new evolution of songwriting; her Lauren Canyon era as she has called it. Inspired by the wonder of falling in love, Jordana puts the song very simply:
‘It’s about leaving any materialistic things behind and basking in the appreciation of the truest loving from a pure ground zero — whether that be with yourself or with someone else. We could leave everything we have and still be happy’
The message behind the track is one about fulfillment-regardless of whatever else is going on in the world and what you may or may not have, you can and will feel enough with the right person. The idea of ‘being enough as you are’ is wonderfully captured in the instrumentation and production of the track. From the opening chords, there is a clear organic quality to the song. Jordana leans into her folk influences and style with fiddle sections interwoven throughout that wonderfully compliments the melody and the guitar strums are a constant feeling of home and familiarity. The lyrics are joyous, hopeful and have a distinct youthful feel to them. Jordana’s tone is warm and excited and its clear from the moment she starts singing how happy she is.
‘Do you believe in love at first sight? Yeah, I still remember our first time. Now, what's mine is yours and what's yours is mine. Ain't it the picture perfect life? Yeah, we get by.’
Jordana is looking to a future that shows no sign of fading away. The relationship is in that sweet stage where you cannot get enough of each other and it feels as though there is nothing that could happen. The hope and excitement for what's to come is genuine though; Jordana recognises that all they need is each other and it is in that simplicity that things are so picture perfect. She loves her partner not because of the things they do nor the things they have bought, just because they are. Its a heartwarming reminder that with the right person, you are enough as you are.
Jordana shows little sign of slowing things down with this release. She has hinted at more Emmett Kai-produced tracks and we know she has been busy writing since early 2023. Nothing has been confirmed yet but given her chameleon approach to songwriting, there is no way of predicting what could come next. A venture into a different genre? More collaborations? Headline tours? It is truly anyones guess. The one thing we can be certain of is that we will just have to get by until the next release.
