EP Review: The Blinders - 'Electric Kool-Aid (Part 1)'
Manchester-based alternative rockers The Blinders have finally released their long anticipated EP ‘Electric Kool-Aid (Part 1). Their refined and expansive rock sound comes to us in the form of five tracks including their latest single ‘City We Call Love’.
Their EP ‘Electric Kool-Aid (Part 1)’ came from a lockdown jam session and sees the band in top form, giving them the opportunity to transfer a shape-shifting journey into expansive soundscapes and a more laid back sound that is less rushed and caffeinated. Combining impressive guitar hooks and pulsating basslines, tracks ‘Electric Kool-Aid’ and ‘City We Call Love’ truly come to life!
About their new EP, vocalist and guitarist Thomas says: “Pretty much all the songs on the EP came from some form of jam state. We’d record everything in the rehearsal room and I’d go home and listen back, choose the best parts and write lyrics to them. I’d bring it back to the band and we’d play it to death… Constantly cutting down and layering as we went along. Nothing is accidental this time round. Everything is on purpose. The songs have been crafted meticulously.”
That the band took the time for their new EP is adamant in this more calculated sound of The Blinders. The time of simply hard-hitting drums and screaming in a mic is now over, the band have elevated to a new level of creating. This might have something to do with the fact that the band went from being a three-piece to a five-piece, “it takes care of our previous limitations and is probably the best decision we’ve made. It’s also the best stuff we’ve written.” And with their best stuff written to date, the band will be joining The Cribs on tour in March 2022!
