TV Priest - 'One Easy Thing'
Navigating the fever dream that is reality, TV Priest's new single shows us that they are a band that contain multitudes.
Comprised of Charlie Drinkwater, Alex Sprogis, Nic Smith and Ed Kelland and championed by the likes of Steve Lamacq at BBC Radio 6 Music, TV Priestwere a band that seemed to come to prominence incredibly quickly. Revered by many for their urgent, unapologetic and brutish sound, the band have become a firm favourite within the UK's underground music scene.
Following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album 'Uppers', TV Priest are back with their arresting new single 'One easy thing'. Beautifully sparse in it's opening refrain, the track points to a change of direction for the band. Sonically, the new single seems lighter than their previous output, aligning more with the booming British Post-Punk scene than with their krautrock inspired roots. The sonic shift is accompanied by an early suggestion of a more open and confessional lyrical approach as Lead Singer Charlie Drinkwater croons "I'm going to take these clothes off now".
Discussing the track, Drinkwater explained that "writing 'One easy thing' was key to unlocking a more direct and personal approach to our song writing. It's about dealing with the small things of everyday life; the anxiety, pressures and battles inside your own headspace". This cerebral conflict is reflected in the tracks beautifully shot accompanying music video. A darkly comic depiction of a beleaguered 15th century knight on his return home from battle and his subsequent danse macabre.
With this early indication of what fans can expect from the bands second album, 'One easy thing' proves that TV Priest are intent on using the momentum garnered from their debut to break new ground and have absolutely no intention of succumbing to the dreaded sophomore slump, like so many who have come before them.
