RED IVORY

This week's Band of the Week is London newcomers Red Ivory - who have just released their EP 'Please Leave, I Need To Wake Up Now'.

Formed in autumn 2021, vocalist Eiliyah, bassist Berry, guitarist Frida, and drummer Ivy met in their secondary school music rooms and began writing together almost immediately. What started as four friends experimenting with riffs and lyrics has since evolved into a band with a sharply defined identity and a catalogue of songs that speak to their shared experiences of adolescence, change, and uncertainty. Every track is written collaboratively, each member shaping the sound so that it reflects their diverse influences – from the rawness of 90s grunge to the angular edges of post-punk and the melodic sensibility of indie rock.

They took a moment to talk to us about how the EP came together.

Greyhaven

It takes a lot for a band to utterly transcend their beginnings. We wonder what fresh-faced 2013 Greyhaven would make of their current-day selves. The Louisville quartet almost didn’t make it to their second album; Cult America holds up as a bleeding-raw artefact of a young band going hell-for-leather and almost running themselves into the ground, with half the band quitting in the lead-up to successor Empty Black. That album did more than just establish them; it gave them stability, as vocalist Brent Mills and bassist Johnny Muensch were joined by guitarist Nick Spencer and drummer Ethan Spray.
